I hold a Ph.D. in Geography from Loughborough University, England; an M.A. in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies, Netherlands; and a Bachelor and Licenciatura degrees in Political Science from the University of Costa Rica. I am full professor in the Schools and Graduate Programs of Geography and Political Science; a researcher at the Center for Research and Political Studies (CIEP); and a member of the Doctorate in Government and Public Policies at the University of Costa Rica. He has taught graduate courses in Political Science and Geography, and also at the National University at the Social Science doctoral program. I coordinated the Central America Chair at UCR.
I has worked as a consultant in political science, development, and geography, specializing in governance and public policies, strategic analysis, migration, and territorial analysis. He has consulted for UNESCO, UNSRID, IUCN, and FAO.
I served as Director for Costa Rica at the BCIE during the period 2015-2018, where he promoted public investment projects focused on productivity, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
