Katie Angell is a Doctoral Candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of Pittsburgh and a Visiting Research Scholar and Instructor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Miami. Her research agenda focuses on two interconnected themes: Race and Ethnic Politics and the study of Public Goods, particularly Security Provision. She examines how states in Central America allocate public goods in ethnically and racially diverse societies and the implications of these decisions for ethnic and racial minority communities. Her dissertation specifically investigates the unequal distribution of security resources, such as police stations, and its impact on indigenous communities in Guatemala, particularly regarding the rise of vigilantism. To gain comprehensive insights into these issues, she is committed to rigorous data collection through a combination of extensive fieldwork and advanced quantitative methods.
